TRAVEL Cyprus Airports Being the closest at only 25km away, Paphos airport is the most convenient whilst the alternative at Larnaca is 95km from Pissouri bay. The completion of major improvements to the A1 Highway which routes around the north of Limassol, now makes Larnaca a viable option with a driving time to Pissouri bay of around one hour. The official website for both airports is at www.cyprusairports.com.cy . When their website is visible, you will probably have to click on "Pafos International Airport" at the top right hand side. In addition to the usual information about arrivals and departures, through their "Destinations Map" link, it is possible to check which UK airports and airlines offer scheduled flights to Paphos and Larnaca. Dissappointingly it doesn't show the availability of charter flights so do check for them from regional airports in your area. Flights Scheduled flights are available to both Paphos and Larnaca on British Airways, Cyprus Airways and easyJet. EasyJet offer flights from Edinburgh, Bristol, London Gatwick, London Luton, and Manchester to Paphos and also from Gatwick to Larnaca. Check latest schedules at www.easyJet.com. Sometimes cheaper or more convenient, charter flights from UK regional airports to Paphos and Larnaca are available. To compare the various prices of flights and their availability, try web sites such as www.cheapflights.co.uk or www.travelonly.co.uk or www.flightline.co.uk or www.travelsupermarket.com. Car Hire Whilst not absolutely essential, it is likely that you will wish to hire a car for your stay in Cyprus. You will be pleased to learn that Cypriots drive on the left and your UK driving license is accepted in Cyprus. Note that young drivers may not always be accepted by hire companies. It is possible to hire a car at the airports or in Pissouri but by hiring from the airport you will avoid the high cost of transfers by taxi. Especially if hiring from the airport you should book in advance. As always, ensure that there is adequate insurance. It is common in Cyprus for windscreens and sumps to only be insured at extra cost. If you plan to drive off-road at all, consider the consequences of a damaged sump! To compare the rental costs of companies which operate at the airports and to see what deals are available, try web sites such as www.auto-europe.co.uk or www.carjet.co.uk . They offer reasonable prices from well known companies such as Sixt and Europcar. There are a number of hire companies which operate just off the airports. They can be cheaper so try agents such as www.economycarrentals.com. Experience seems to indicate that the cost of car hire (typically paid in Sterling but for a Euro transaction) varies according to the prevailing exchange rate. It is therefore worth monitoring the rate and making bookings at the best times. Note that there is ample car parking at Villa Berengaria. Taxis are available at both airports and there doesn't seem to be any benefit pre-booking. Return taxis can be booked in Pissouri. The high cost of taxis can, of course, be avoided by hiring a car at the airport.
